From getting involved in the community, remodeling the King Cotton Chrysler Dodge Ram Jeep dealership in Covington and, of course, selling cars, there's a lot going on at King Cotton Motor Company these days. Dino Grisanti, King Cotton president, is proud of all of this, but it's pretty clear giving back to the community that has supported King Cotton all these years is at the top of the list.

When Grisanti and other managers Jeremy Hicks, Brad Davis, Mike Racine and Justin Marshall were looking at the budget a few months ago, they came up with an initiative called King Cotton Cares. King Cotton has always given to various organizations, but they are clearly taking it to a new level. King Cotton will hand out $50,000 this year.

Go Lucy Go, a foundation Foundation dedicated to serving children and families facing the diagnosis of a brain tumor in honor of cancer survivor Lucy Krull, will get $10,000. The Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse, which has 16 offices all across West Tennessee, will be given $2,500.

King Cotton has donated money to Go Lucy Go and the Carl Perkins Center for the last several years. The rest of the money - $37,500 – will go to parent-teacher organizations at public schools in Tipton, Haywood, Lauderdale and Dyer counties, which is a new endeavor for the company.

“We figured all of them have fundraisers and they're all selling things, like wrapping paper during Christmas,” Grisanti said. “They have to sell a lot of wrapping paper to net $1,000. We feel like the parents and teachers know where they need the money more than anybody else does.”

There are 38 elementary, middle and high schools in the four counties and every one will get its share. It breaks down to almost $1,000 per school.

“We know it's not a huge number to any one school, but we think we can do more good donating that money at home rather than to national things,” Grisanti said. “If business increases we hope to increase that number in future years.”

Further evidence of community investment has come in the form of a complete remodel of King Cotton Chrysler Dodge Ram Jeep. The dealership has been brought up to Chrysler specs with new alignment machines and the installation of a quick lube fast lane there and at King Cotton Ford.

The company's mission statement sums all this up perfectly: “King Cotton Cares supports the promise of a rewarding future for our children of West Tennessee. We seek to provide financial support to our local educational systems and local organizations that share our vision and dedication to helping children realize their maximum potential.”

Added Grisanti: “We feel like it's a great investment in the community.”
